Berliner Konzert Chor

Who are we?

The Berlin Concert Choir

“As long as I’m singing, it’s as if I’m inhabiting another reality. I become temporarily suspended in a world where everything bad is bearable, and everything good feels possible.” – Stacy Horn, Imperfect Harmony

Singing brings us peace of mind and strengthens our inner composure (it’s also good for the heart). The choral experience – singing together – is both marvellous and a lot of fun. We directly experience the beauty of music. Even the rehearsals are (mostly) a joy.

New singers are always welcome. Come to a rehearsal and see for yourself. Curious? So are we! Our ensemble includes singers from various countries and all ages. (You don’t speak so much German? There are ways around that, and music, remember, is the universal language.)

We are a non-professional choir. We sing, make music, and learn. The learning begins with personal voice training and carries through into our regular, ongoing rehearsal sessions. Not so sure about reading music? It's something you can learn. Our hard work culminates in our series of concerts in the Berlin Philharmonie and the Konzerthaus at Gendarmenmarkt. We sing the great works, the most-loved works. If you've ever wanted to sing Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, or Handel’s Messiah, then you've come to the right place. But we also perform new and unknown music, such as Johann Michael Haydn’s Requiem; Âtesh, by Alfred Felder; and most recently, the American composer Steve Dobrogosz’s jazz-inspired Mass

Our goals are ambitious. Together with our youth and children’s choirs and our sister organisation, the Berlin Concert Orchestra, we strive to offer our audiences a lasting musical experience.

Our director, Jan Olberg, regularly challenges us to grow and to surpass our limitations, bringing a collective but also personal sense of achievement to our work. Thus we strive to achieve our most professional goals. We enjoy an extensive, international repertoire that includes works of all classical styles and perform regularly in Berlin.
